Towards the end of his career, Francois Rude was commissioned by his native city of Dijon to create a marble sculpture, for which he depicted the Greek Goddess of youth - Hebe. Here she is shown as cupbearer to the Gods, raising a vessel of ambrosia above her father Zeus, who appears in the guise of eagle.
